This year we had the pleasant surprise in the studio of being invited to be part of the 7th edition of Jing’an International Sculpture Project in Shanghai, China. It has been an exciting challenge and a great satisfaction to have managed to produce 3 large-scale works to be exhibited at the Jing’an Sculpture Park and will be on display until December 31, 2023. With this milestone, the studio has managed to cross borders and show the work achieved with great effort to the Chinese market specifically and the Asian market in general.
JISP is deeply rooted in the heart of Shanghai`s historical and cultural core, Jing’an District. Held Biennally, it has become a renowned public art and cultural brand in Shanghai and China. Since its inception in 2010, it has evolved from “City Fantasy”, “Pride City”, “City Paradise”, “City Rebirth” to “City Unbounded”, narrating a decade-long journey of art education in Jing’an and Shanghai. In 2020, JISP embarked on a new decade with the theme “Space”, where the focus moves from city to spaces with last year´s “Reshaping Space”, adopting a macro to micro perspective, and emphasizing iterative innovation.
Alejandro Vega Beuvrin at the Public art conference
The artist has participated in the biennial with 3 large-scale works Barricada 2, Barricada 9 and Barricada 18 and in turn has been part of the panelists selected for the cycle of art conferences under the same theme “Space evolution”, a platform that has given the opportunity to transmit part of his artistic research such as the intention to deconstruct the conventional perception of the plane using it as a compositional element, and then reshape the structure of space through interactive, free and unconstrained exploration.
